Steven H Klein

Attorney

Attorney Steven H. Klein has been dedicated to helping clients navigate the courts and the legal system for almost two decades. After graduating from SUNY New Paltz with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1989, he worked in financial planning for a few years. In 1994, he enrolled at New York Law School. During his time there, he won first place in Writing and Oral Advocacy in the Froessel Moot Court Competition, represented his school on the National Moot Court Team, and received the William Kappelman Award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy. He graduated from NYLS in 1997 with honors.

His Legal Career

After graduation, Steve joined his father, Lou Klein, and grandfather, retired Supreme Court Justice Aaron Klein, at the family law firm. While there, he learned a great deal from his father and grandfather and ultimately chose to focus on family law after putting himself on a panel to be trained to represent children in family court. Thanks to his concentrated emphasis on family law, Steve has built a reputation as a skilled, compassionate, and effective Poughkeepsie divorce attorney. He has handled cases throughout the state of New York, including Suffolk County to the south and Montgomery and Otsego Counties to the north. Other lawyers have even retained Steve to carry out complex, drawn-out legal proceedings.

His Community Work

Steve is committed to giving back to his community. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Ulster County, the Gateway Industries Foundation Board, and the Board of the Kingston Kiwanis Club, he was also a member of the Board of the Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in Dutchess County. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mt. Gulian Historical Site in Beacon, NY; serves on the advisory board of the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley; and is the Lt. Governor-Elect for the Hudson River Division of Kiwanis International.

Alongside his many accomplishments as a Poughkeepsie family lawyer, Steve has also been teaching college students for almost twenty years, first at his alma mater, SUNY New Paltz. At Dutchess Community College, followed by the Lifetime Learning Institute at Bard, and currently at Marist College. He also wrote a chapter in Strategies for Family Law in New York, entitled “Winning Strategies and Potential Pitfalls in New York Family Law Cases,” and is the lead singer and lyric/music writer for the band Steve Anthony.
